I Have Been On Prolia For 4 1/2 Years, Two Shots Left - I Know There Are Other Drugs Availabe.

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am asking other members what they take and success rate before I see my rheumatologist in the fall. I believe in being informed. This is my body and I really want to get this right after so many years of wrong meds. So far I have had good success with prolia - I was at -3.6 and now at -3.1. All I am asking is other meds and how people feel while on them.
Thank you

McCormick has written a book that does a good job explaining how bone growth happens normally and what happens when we develop osteoporosis. Lots of new vocabulary, but I found it very helpful. R. Keith McCormick, Whole Body Approach to Osteoporosis.

When you stop forteo you need to go on a biphosphonate to maintain good effects of forteo. Dr Keith Mccormick in USA took forteo for I think 18 mths then I think fos amax for a number of months but uses particular supplements
Nutrition and exercise.

There seem to be two types of osteoporosis meds...those that slow bone loss such as @Prolia, and those that increase bone growth such as @Forteo and @Tymlos. I had no problems with either @Prolia or previously @Forteo, but the good effects of @Forteo proved to be temporary. @Prolia can make wound healing slow. Unless you can figure out why you are in this osteoporotic fix in the first place and can address the root cause, you probably be advised to alternate @Prolia and either @Forteo or @Tymlos in the future.

But I think there is research showing that just stopping Prolia without taking another OP, maybe a biphosphonate, can result in fractures. I'm not a medical person but I would do my homework on this.
