Exercise Where You Twist

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Phoenixville, PA

I've heard that an exercise where you twist your spine or bend over is not good for those with osteoporosis. Is that something that should be avoided?

I was told by my consultant not to bend over or do twisting movements because of my osteoporosis and the risk of further damage.

I don't do lots, but if I am standing in the kitchen I do squats and lift up on to my toes, and use light weights to do sitting exercises to strengthen my arms, use it or lose it, and I am trying not to give in to using a rollator instead of sticks 😊

I think any exercises like that might be risky! After the last year I had I'm very cautious with moving like that! I'm probably over-cautious. Check with your physician first!!

My physical therapist told me not to twist my spine & when I bend over to bend the knees as if to squat.
