My fingers are starting to go crooked, I have pain in both index fingers, ring fingers. Also now I have ache in my thumb. Dr said it looks like ostio. They have never tested for anything. I have never had an answer. I am getting lumps on first joints also. Can they do blood test to say what this is? Thank you

Members rallied around someone experiencing finger pain, swelling, and crooked joints that their doctor suspected was osteoarthritis, with many sharing that X-rays are typically the first diagnostic step and that blood tests can measure inflammation levels but may not definitively confirm OA. Several members offered practical remedies that have helped them, including glucosamine with chondroitin supplements, heat therapy, arthritis compression gloves, gelatin powder from health stores, and avoiding legumes and peanuts close to calcium intake since they may interfere with absorption. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating for yourself, seeking a second opinion if needed, balancing activity to avoid stiffness without overusing painful joints, and holding onto cherished activities like crocheting for as long as possible despite the discomfort.

I have the same. I don't know what it is but my doctor told me to take Glucosamine with Chondroitin. Also I was eating a lot of beans which I grew this year. I found out that do not eat Legumes with osteoporosis also peanuts as they stop the body to absorb calcium. Since I have stopped my fingers feel so much better. I can't take the Glucosamine as it has magnesium which does interact with my blood pressure medication. But it is very good.

I worked in a fish plant working with frozen fish for eights years don’t think that helped my hands either. I enjoy crocheting will hand on to that as long as I can. I do find it hard to open jars sometimes, I just hit lid with a knife. Lol

I did some research on this. Seems certain foods, and there are several others, keep you from absorbing calcium as well. They don't recommend not eating these foods but waiting two hours or so after or before consuming calcium .

I looked up what foods not to eat with osteoporosis and that is what came up. It also said seeds. But I still put sunflower seeds on my breakfast as they have magnesium in them. And when I remember to buy them sesame seeds which apparently have calcium in them
