Has Anyone Used A Weighted Vest To Add More Weight When Walking, Exercising? Did It Improve Bone Density?
I agree that walking is very good for you. I walk everywhere because I don't drive. I also biked until about a year ago. I am 75 years old. I confess that I don't go to a gym, but, I do a lot of walking, especially in the spring, summer and fall. Right now, a couple of feet of snow on the ground...stay inside in lounging pyjamas. Just walking as far as the bathroom.
I have not used a weighted vest. I sometimes wear a hip belt to help my lower back.
I use a weighted vest. At my age I don't expect it to reverse Osteoporosis, I do believe it helps to prevent it getting worse. Be careful if you do use one. Depending if you have already had fractures, where they are etc. Start light and gradually increase the weight over time. It has the added bonus for me of burning more calories to keep my weight in check. xx
I bought a weighted best and was a bit overzealous and wore it for a couple hours the first couple days. My back hurt after that! I will try again but this time will set the timer for maybe 15 minutes and then build up to longer time. I would definitely not try to do a Zumba class for at least a couple of months until you get used to it.
I use hand weights, I'm afraid I would get too hot with a vest
