Has Anyone On This Site Increased Their Bone Density With Just Calcium Rich Foods, Supplements, Exercise And No Medication?
3 year DEXA scan history, always in January -
2019 Frax probability 13.6% so set about more serious weight bearing exercise (even though have exercised my whole life regularly) and taking Bone restore from Life Extension
2020 - Frax probability dropped to 11.9%
2021 Frax probability 14.3% Ugh previous 12 months cut down on Bone restore cuz did not like the way I felt but continued with D3 5000 IU, exercise. Blood work shows plenty of calcium and K2 in diet
So of course my Doc wants me on meds and still resisting ...the way I look at it I a have 86% of not fracturing....going to try different protocal.
Thank you to all who take the time to share...it helps us all.
I read the Whole body approach to osteoporosis by DrKeith McCormick. And then I made an appointment with him. I do use Bone maximum Iii and
Citracal Max plus. I heard calcium citrate is good. I also take Osteo stem and Osteo sustain
Exercise and eat healthy. I will let you know if it helped once I get my Dexa scan the end of March
That’s what I am doing this year before I start taking any medication. I will have my DEXA scan in the end of March then decide.
Update: Really like the endocrinologist I see--thorough, listens well. I've had bloodwork, and everything was normal except my thyroid, that was off the charts high. This was followed by a scan, no tumor. Now urinalysis to see what else might be going on. This is just to say: make sure you have your thyroid checked. A lot of what I thought were side effects may actually be thyroid dysfunction. Still sorting. 24 hour urine sample today, and then I should know what all is contributing to my bone loss. Not rushing to any conclusions, just learning as we go.
Had my consultation with an endocrinologist today--very helpful. I told him about my side effects (sleep disturbance joint pain, constipation) and he advised me to discontinue it and see how I feel in a month. He said we can discuss alternatives to fosomax then. He also advised to continue D3 and calcium citrate, but did not feel that many of the other supplements on the market were necessary or more effective than just these two. I also didn't realize that there are two types of osteoporosis--primary and secondary. I didn't realize that prednisone can diminish bone density either, and I've been on that in the past for polymyalgia reheumatica (fancy term for large muscle group pain). Great!
So, for now, I'm off the fosomax, and hoping to feel better soon.
