Re Success Of Forteo
I have received been prescribed Forteo injections because of a significant drop in my recent DEXA Scan and would like to get feedback/experience from others about the efficacy of this drug versus Aclasta?
I did the 2 year regimen. I didn't get any positive results from it, but that's most likely due to the aggressive nature of my osteo. I didn't have any side effects from it either.
@A MyOsteoTeam Member I took Forteo for the 2 years that are allowed. It did help overall and I didn't have any bad side effects.
Carol, I wish you all the best with your treatment! It’s wonderful that your health care provides some free meds for you. How long did you take the Forteo injections without seeing improvement?
Hi Suzette92, my Endocrinologist told me that both Tylmos and Forteo were injectables that, after taking it daily for 18 months, would be discontinued. While it would improve the bone density initially, after getting off of it your bones would go back to what they were. I just laughed because it was: 1. Expensive and 2. Useless at the end.
Did your Endocrinologist give you the results before and after Forteo? I am interested in the result of your recent scan and wonder if you could ask your Dr which drug has been most effective. Because Forteo is so expensive I was given the choice that I could have Aclasta infusions but because of having to have spinal surgery with one of the screws breaking away due to ‘soft bones’, (as my neurosurgeon explained to me after the surgery), I need to do what drug is best for strengthening my bones.
