Fosamax...

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Queenstown, NZ

I'm on Fosamax and my GP prescribes 13 pills for 3 months, but the pharmacist insists on only giving me 12. This seems petty, but it makes a difference of a month each year.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has questioned this? (NZ)

Thanks for your reply. The GP writes it for 13 as there are 13 weeks in 3 months. It just makes it easier to sinc with other scripts I get that last 3 months.

Hi Carol, I haven't had any problems with Fosamax (yet!)
I took it for a few years, then had a 2 year break from it and now back on as bone scan showed further deterioration.
It's probably best for you to read up on it before deciding. There seem to be a lot of different opinions. Sorry I'm not much help! 😎

I cannot understand why your GP wrote a prescription for 13 pills knowing how the drug is packaged. I have been on this drug for a few years taking 1 pill each week. When I take the 11th pill I call for a refill. That gives both the doctor and pharmacy time to refill without missing a dose. I would not worry about it, it will work out for you.

I cannot understand why your GP wrote the script for 13 pills. I have taken this drug for years, once a week. When I take my 11th pill I call for a refill of the prescription, that gives the doctor/pharmacy time to refill without missing a dose.
