Forteo
Has anyone been able to get forteo approved by insurance when not having taken prior osteoporosis medications?
I looked into this drug that my endo doctor wanted me to take. Forteo is very expensive, and you give yourself the small injections daily for 2 years. This drug is only given to people with very bad dexa scores and have a history of breaking bones. My hip scores were in the -5's and I have broken both arms and many toes. This drug is supposed to build bone. From what I have researched, their side effects are not as bad as prolia. After you stop taking this drug, you "must" take other bone drugs, or your bones will go back to how they were.
I would really like to hear from any of you ladies that took forteo, whether it worked, or didn't work, and what side affects you had if any. And how long it's been since you took it and how your dexa scores are doing now.
I walk everyday with my dog? Do u have one? Great excuse to get out everyday. I feel okay most of the time. I have both osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Also stretch daily. I am 62.
@A MyOsteoTeam Member I do feel as though it is getting better after 18 months though but I've been pushing myself to walk more and I have been doing PT for 11 out of the last 14 months.
@A MyOsteoTeam Member...I have pain always. Sometimes not as bad as others. Upper fractures cause a vise like feeling and lower fractures hurt.
They would not approve Forteo for me after I suffered 8 spontaneous compression fractures when my doc told me it would be OK to skip a dose of Prolia. It is NOT OK to do that and I've suffered greatly for that statement from my doc who then lied in my chart. Anyway, I ended up finding another doctor and going on Evenity which I finished in February and then back on Prolia after a 2 month wait because of a tooth extraction. Geez....
