I tried for a few years by eating health, exercising daily. Strength training, walking, golfing, taking supplements and vitamins.. did everything right and continued losing bone. Went in Fosamax more than two years ago. Bones are improving and no side effects.

I was on Fosamax for 10 years with no problems. You atually are only supposed to be on it for 5 years but due to my moving around no one (including me) caught this, However I had no ill effets and I actually went from osteoporosis to osteopenia. Did not take anything for 3 years and went back to osteoporosis. Went back on Fosamax which you can do after a break but it bothered my then huge hiatus hernia. So went on the Prolia injections every 6 months with no problem. I can't promise that you won't have a side effect but all pills have that potential. One thing I can tell you that if you do nothing it will get worse and you risk fractures, especially in your back. And it won't matter what supplements you take or how much you walk so think this through carefully. I know its not an easy decision but do your homework and chose the best option for you with your dr. Good luck to you.

I have been on Actonel once a week for years and I have had no side effects, and no worsening of my bone loss...so the meds along with calcium and Vitamin D seem to be working. I am 80 years old.

I’m on Actonel, tablet once a week, so far not terrible. I didn’t want meds either but the alternative is bones like a Loofa sponge, I’m only 57 so I have to stop this and save the bone I have . I may consider stopping medication later on

Hi Kelly, I'm the same. Not sure whether I should take something or not? The Dr wants to put me on Prolia but I'm not ready to take the plunge. I am 58. I think I need to hear a lot more positive stories to encourage me or I may never take the drugs.
