How Often Is Recommended For A Bone Density Scan

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
London, UK

I asked my doctor this week to be referred to have a bone density scan. She said no as I’m taking medication for my bones so there is no need for the scan, I’m on Risedronate sodium tablet once a week have been for many years. I’ve only ever had one of these scans when I got diagnosed with osteoporosis.
Can anyone tell me how often do you have a bone density scan, or where can I get the information on this please xxx

I am 73 years old. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2019 after I had a bone scan. My doctor wanted me to go on the meds, but I researched and decided to try the natural supplements AlgaeCal Plus and Strontium Boost. After 9 months on it, I went from osteoporosis back to osteopenia. My last 2 bone scans were done in 2021 and 2023 and I had improvement both times. Medicare covers dexa scans every 2 years. Wishing everyone well!
