Good morning I used Alendronate which is generic brand name of fosamax. It definitely worked for me after taking it for 5 yrs.Doc took me off of it. 2 yrs later I was back to Osteoporosis so now I'm back on it once again I get a bone density scan next week to see if there's improvement. You must read the instructions to this medication take first thing in A.M. before you brush your teeth and before you eat,do not take with any other meds unless instructed by your doctor,do not eat until a hour later and then you can lay down and not before if you do you'll get indigestion. Cindy I don't think that Helen6 was asking for medical advice just how others who were taking it felt about it. Your Rheumatologist can't tell you that.

I’ve taken Alendronate, but only for 6 months. I developed bad heartburn and due to lack of appetite, I lost quite a bit of weight. But these drugs affect everyone differently. The good thing is you can try it and if it doesn’t work out you can always stop with no issue.
I’m wondering if your rheumatologist suggested a bone building drug first, like Tymlos, Forteo or Evenity. You mentioned you’ve had a few fractures already, perhaps these type drugs would be more beneficial. Just a thought.
