@A MyOsteoTeam Member hello I am having Prolia injections every 6 months for the Osteoporosis and I am taking vitamin D 3 1000iu supplements daily and recently I started taking a daily vitamin K2 for bone health. I also walk daily for exercise and it helps me to keep my joints healthy for the Osteoarthritis. I’m using my 4 wheeled walker (Rollator) daily to help my balance when I’m outdoors and it helps.

I use/ keep a cane with me at all times. Not necessary mostly in house, but I don’t go out without it

Annmay, how often you get a dexa scan depends on 3 things: your insurance, your doctor, and your ability to pay for it if your insurance won't.
When my hip score dropped down to -5.4 and I would not take prolia or forteo,
I started back to the gym every single day and did 25 flights of stairs on the stair machine and worked out on some other "weight bearing" machines. I did not do weightlifting as that is stupid for older people with osteoporosis to do. Anyway, my doctor saw how hard I was working and sent me for another dexa scan, and that one showed great improvement, so I kept going to the gym doing the same workout every single day, and in another 7 months, she wrote me up for another dexa scan and that one showed I was still getting much better. In 2 years time,
I brought my hip score of -5.4 to a -3.2
I called my insurance company ahead of time and they told me if my doctor writes me a referral to have dexa scans that often, that they will pay for it.
I would have paid if they didn't, just to find out if what I was doing was working. I was thankful that I had good insurance, and a good doctor that would write me the referrals, so that I would know if what I was doing, was working.

@A MyOsteoTeam Member yes I have a Bone Density test every 2 years and it assessed my wrists, hips and lumbar spine area . A full body scan hasn’t been done for many years but my doctor gave me a referral for a full back and chest X-rays this year after I had two very serious accidents which caused numerous fractures in my left ribs and spine on 17th March and I was in the hospital for 10 days . Thankfully my Home care provider Right at Home arranged for two weeks of home Respite Care and I had help even during the Easter weekend and the cheerful women who came to help me have not come back recently!

The other fall was on 26th June when I was almost run over by a speeding car when I was walking home from the bus stop and I stepped backwards to avoid being hit and I fell onto the road on my backside and then I toppled over and hit my upper spine and then hit the back of my head on the road and I couldn’t move and two off duty nurses came to my aid and I had 5 days in the hospital with more fractures and mild Concussion.

I recovered afterwards at home.

The rude man driving the car drove off!’m
