Members shared grateful advice on managing osteoporosis, with consistent recommendations to take vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, and K2 while staying active through walking and weight-bearing exercises. Several members emphasized the importance of early detection through DEXA scans, maintaining a positive mindset through pain, and working closely with doctors to monitor bone density changes and choose appropriate treatments like Fosamax, Boniva, or Prolia. A recurring theme was the importance of fall prevention through balance exercises and resistance training, eating protein-rich and calcium-rich foods, and understanding that while family history matters, staying proactive with supplements and movement gives the best chance at maintaining bone health.

I do take Fosamax for almost 4 years. I really think it helps but I walk 4 miles daily, exercise, eat healthy, take vitamins and supplements, taking a balance class because as you age if you fall and break a hip or any bone life gets tough so trying to do exercise so if I trip I will not fall. I feel blessed I am healthy but have osteoarthritis and osteopenia along with sore back, but I do consider myself lucky for all the things I can do. I stay very positive

Walking is the best exercise, so try to make a good walk part of your daily routine if possible. Make sure that you have plenty of calcium-rich meals (remember that there is calcium in many vegetables and some fish, not just dairy produce).

Be careful of prolia.....make sure your doctor is aware of the rebound effect. Many people have serious reactions to it .

For me, it was just finding out when I did. My doctor recommended a dexa scan, and I am glad she did. I found out early enough to take steps to keep it from getting worse( thus far anyway). I stay active and I get as much calcium and vitamin D as I can. I also take Boniva which has helped me. I don't like having osteopania, but I am glad I know now.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas ๐ŸŽ„
