Can A Pelvic Fracture Show Up On An X Ray?

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

A recent ct revealed an old pelvic fracture . I had had x rays last spring when my back and hip pain became unbearable. Nothing showed up and my physicians were dismissive of my complaint of increased pain. Is this common? And , will this healed fracture continue to cause pain in an already painful condition of my back. Thank you.

Sometime, when I was in my teens I fell on the crossbar of my older brother's bike, cracked my pelvis bone. It was not discovered until I had a kidney operation and I had ex-rays done. I was in my 30's. I had given birth to 4 children. I know this is off-topic. It just brought back memories. I just remember the pain way back when.

I am so lucky for all those painless years. I hope the pain stops for you soon.

Old fractures don’t cause pain. It takes at least 6 weeks for the fx to heal, pelvis fxs should show up on X-ray. Unfortunately, they can be missed, it happened to me, nobody is perfect. A new fx will hurt like “you know what”, but once it is healed, the pain should be gone. I have had 6 spontaneous fx, and I thought it hurt worse than labor pain!

Pelvic fractures are not always noted on xray, it happened to me in May 2018 and 3 weeks later I was in so much pain and my dr believed me sent me by ambulance to Hospital ER for CT scan and I had 3 pelvic fractures and L5 too. I was in hospital for 17 days and they had a difficult time trying to reduce my pain. I pray that you and all our osteo team will take care, Amanda

I was in PT for a hip problem for 6 months. Exercises every day. They said my muscles were tight. Even had deep tissue massages. I was sure I must have a hair line fracture. Finally had an X-ray and found out the pain was sciatica and all the exercises made it worst. Once I stopped PT..... the pain went away.
