Stooping

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Glastonbury, UK

Is there any cure or is there anything that would lessen the stooping caused by osteoporosis?
It hurts me to try and stand up straight so I compensate by stooping lower and lower which I don't want.
What treatment or advice have other people had?

There is a simple exercise I do that helps. Clasps your hands behind your back. Stand as strsight as possible and center your head and neck over your shoulders. Now with hands still clasped lift them gently towards the ceiling. Start with as many as you can do and work up to 15. I do this twice a day for a month now I am feeling the difference. The core muscles also need to be strong so we don't slouch. Look on YouTube for Chair exercises.

Hi there. I don't use a walker or rolator as I don't go out and due to my present living conditions I haven't got room to walk with that type of aid at home.
I've tried the stretchy thing from Amazon that's meant to correct posture by pulling the shoulders back which it does but it doesn't stop the stooping. I now realise that something so cheap was never going to correct curvature of the spine. Maybe there are much more expensive types with metal stayes that work.
When I do start going out again I shall get a walker or rolator. Thanks for your help.

I was going to suggest a walker or rolator. I find myself doing the same thing of stooping and that makes me feel really old! My walker helps me stand straighter. good luck.

@A MyOsteoTeam Member I have 3 compression fractures T10,11,12 and my PT said that I shouldn't bend down so since I use a Walker she lowered my handle bars so 1st do you use a Walker, 2nd are you on pain medication, 3rd do you see PT or chiropractor, massage? I will check to learn more about your situation. When my handle bars were higher my arms hurt I thought because of MS but so far after 1 month I don't have sore arms anymore and I feel that the lowering of the handle bars has been helping me to stand up straighter! Check out my story and I keep trying to add info to it but please feel free to ask me questions or other osteo team members for info or to get their advice and experience with osteoporosis! Take care and stay healthy, God bless you, love and hugs, Amanda
