Have had two infusions in the past 3 years..done density has improved..take calcium an d3 too..no side effects whatsoever..
Forteo builds bone and is very expensive and many insurance companies do not pay for it. Prolia is supposed to build bone and slow bone loss down, and many women have bad side effects from it. Fosamax does not build bone; it is supposed to slow bone loss down. You cannot have any invasive dental work done while on these meds because it can cause Osteonecrosis of the jaw which is very bad.
I've been taking Reclast for a year and a half. I've had two infusions. No side effects at all. I'll be getting my next dexa in January so I'll know how well it's working. The only issue with it is you can't have any major dental work done, i.e. root canal, tooth pulled, implants, etc., done within a few months of having an infusion. Reclast can affect the jaw bone healing process.
The first Reclast infusion I had achiness in my bones and sternum and vomited that night. My doctor had explained that some people will feel ill after the first infusion some may not but if you do feel sick it will only be after the first infusion. That is what happened to me. I had 3 years of infusions once a year and I went from osteoporosis to healthy bone for a few years. After 10 years I had to start the Reclast infusions again. I had my second one in September. I had improvement in one hip and my lumbar, have osteopenia but my right hip has gotten worse. My doctor told me that Reclast isn’t working for me and he thinks I should start Evenity next year. I’m not sure about the possible side effects or the monthly year of injections. I’m concerned though about my right hip getting worse though.
