I’m going to start my treatment tomorrow. 1 pill per week. But I have a delicate stomach. I would like to be prepared. I’m nervous and sad and angry and confused.

I have 51 years. I was diagnosed with osteopenia/osteoporosis last week (borderline), January 2019. I’m post menopausal (early menopause, last menstrual period at 39-41 years). I had a gastric bypass in September 2007 and as a consequence of that a malabsorption syndrome. For the last 2 years since now I’m dealing with severe vitamin… read more

I was diagnosed with T -4 in 2 of my lower vertebrae, osteopina/ borderline left hip, Dr prescribed alendronic acid then risedronate after first lot upset my crohns, then I became ill on those so have decided to stick with calcium vit D3 & K2 & high dose vit C, & I practice yoga stretches & osteoporosis excercise, & have now started gentle weights. The side effects of these drugs are too scary, & as they were causing me gut problems (which I frankly refuse to live with again) I had to say no, it's all about quality of life right now.

penelope you are correct, most calcium is not good for your cardiovascular system. However, if you take a plant based one it is much safer. That is what my bone specialist put me on.

Magnesium also directs the calcium go to your bones.
My bone health specialist refused to put me on fosomax because she thought forteo (which grows bone) was a better fit for me.

Welcome Adriana! I too have a delicate stomach. I refused Fosamax and insisted on having the annual infusion. It is done at a hospital intravenously. It takes 20 minutes, plus time when they check your temperature , blood pressure etc.
I just felt very shivery for the rest of that day after the first one and after the second one shivery for a few hours.

I have been on fosamax two years. No side effects- biggest problem was remebering to take it the one day each week before eating. I am now taking it sunday mornings and have set alarm on my phone.
