Diagnosis And Medication

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fort Wayne, ID

My number for my lumbar spine is 1.057 g/cm; T-score 0.1
Femoral neck is 0.591 g/cm2; T-score -2.3

My doctor has prescribed Fosamax.
When I read the paper work for the meds, I see it can cause problems (especially with stomach problems). I am on pantoprazole for GERD.
Beyond that, I have a stent and take blood thinners and take multiple medication for heart and bp and cholesterol.
I don't think I should take the Fosamax.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Mdn

Hip Fractures

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Brooksville, FL

I went to get my bone density test. As I waited, I saw a skeletal poster on the wall. Out of curiosity, I asked exactly what breaks when a person breaks his/her hip. She pointed to the "neck" of the ball where it is inserted into the socket in the pelvis. I thought that it was a narrow and small piece of bone compared to the other bones on the skeleton on the poster. Later on in the day, I wonder......Does a person fall and the hip breaks OR the bone snapped causing the person to fall?

I fell and cracked my hip. Had it replaced. Had a steel rod put in too. I still can't lay on it. That was 1 1/2 yrs ago.

Do You Recommend Fosamax? What About Side Effects?

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Diego, CA

I’m going to start my treatment tomorrow. 1 pill per week. But I have a delicate stomach. I would like to be prepared. I’m nervous and sad and angry and confused.

I have 51 years. I was diagnosed with osteopenia/osteoporosis last week (borderline), January 2019. I’m post menopausal (early menopause, last menstrual period at 39-41 years). I had a gastric bypass in September 2007 and as a consequence of that a malabsorption syndrome. For the last 2 years since now I’m dealing with severe vitamin… read more

Whoosh Of Pain In Lower Back And Legs. Legs Are Weak And Heavy.

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pinellas Park, FL

Over the last month I have had an odd occurrence of pain and weakness in my legs. It has happened three times. Suddenly I feel a whoosh of pain in my back that shoots down my legs. Pain subsides relatively quickly however my legs feel very heavy and weak. Makes it difficult to walk and stand. Am wondering if it is all related to my osteoporosis in my spine and hip. Scary when this happens.

A MyOsteoTeam Member

I know the feeling. I twisted my knee and was slow to recover .it's hard.

Anyone Taking HRT For Their Osteoporosis?

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Clearwater, FL

I was on Forteo for 15 months and my spine went from -2.9 to -3.0. My Endocronoglist and I agreed that I was going in the wrong direction. I am 61 and have a rare hormone disease called Kallman's Syndrome. We thought we would try Bonvia, Supplements, and a low dose of HRT. I take Climara Pro patch but only a half a patch a week. The regular does is 1 patch a week so it's a very low dose. I know that there are risks associated with HRT treatment for women my age but I feel that saving my bones… read more
